AFAIU you can only start a subtitle at the beginning of a clip. I found iMovie's subtitling feature really frustrating for the following reasons:ġ) Very little control over when text appears and for how long. I wanted to have reasonably accurate time placement of my subtitles, since I'm pointing at stuff and saying, "This is the floozabobble, and this is the thingamajig." on the audio. I put in subtitles (basically echoing my narration) because the audience is Chinese and will be able to translate better if they can see what I'm saying. I just spend ~1 day making a short (very amateurish) training video for a technical product.
